Crestview
WHATAWHATA
Set on a hillside in Whatawhata, Crestview follows the land’s natural descent. The plan terraces down the slope, each level stepping to meet the terrain while opening toward Mount Pirongia. From the upper entry to the lower living areas, movement through the house mirrors the fall of the site.
Its white exterior stands in contrast to the green hillside, giving the building a clear outline against its backdrop. Inside, spaces expand toward the view, with large openings framing the mountain and valley floor beyond.
The stepped form creates a rhythm of sheltered and exposed moments, balancing privacy with openness. The design roots itself in the landform, treating the hillside not as an obstacle but as a guide. Crestview House becomes both lookout and retreat, a simple composition shaped by slope, crest, and view.
